A New Park for Colorado Skaters!

A new skate park has just opened in Arvada, Colorado right off of 72nd avenue. The park is the newest addition to the Apex Recreation Center who wanted to build a large scale free community park to give local skaters another park option. The park is actually one of the largest in its area, with Denver skate park being similar in size. Like many other Colorado skate parks, this one is also mainly concrete. The park covers 40,000 plus square feet and has many vert and street features including in-ground bowls, a snake run, a couple stair sets, and many boxes and rails to grind. Team Pain, a respectable skate park design/building company from Florida, was the creative force behind both the design and building of this skate park. Since the parks recent opening in 2012, I have only been able to visit the park once myself. From just my one visit I saw a lot of enthusiasm from the locals about the park and not only from just skateboarders but from bikers and rollerbladers as well. So, no matter what you medium of cruising around is, I highly suggest your visit the Apex Skate Park. Feel free to check out the links to both the article, a video tour, and lots of pictures!

The Largest in the World, SMP Skatepark

With its impressive 44,936 never-ending amount square footage, SMP skatepark should be something from a a skaters dream. If only wish it wasn’t located halfway around the globe in Shanghai, China. I choose this article because it gives you an inside look at one of the most creative and progressive skateparks in the world. The article isn’t terribly long, but it includes two great pictures and two videos. One of them is kind of virtual tour park from ground level by Professional skater Andy MacDonald. He is actually shooting the footage of the skatepark while on his skateboard, so it makes it even easier picture yourself as if you were actually there. The other video is a DC skate team demo that was held on the street course area of the park. The article is from a skateboard magazine’s website called Skateboarding Magazine that has been a long a long running, skater driven publication. I have looked through my fair share or magazines and they never fail to disappoint, with their interesting interviews of up and coming pro skaters and looks at some of the best skate spots in local areas. The article was an easy pick for my blog because it’s about a skatepark that every skater wishes to skate atleast once in his life and is a recent and substantial addition to the growing skateboarding culture around the world. I invite you to look at both videos and enjoy this unique inside look at the worlds largest skatepark.

One of Colorado’s Best

I choose an article from westworld.com that talked about Denver Skate Park.  I liked this publication because it offered a lot of reviews and awards about the park, to give you even more information. This specific article I choose talks about an award that was received by this skate park calling it the largest free public skate park facility in the nation. The article pertains to my blog because its a skate park review, and its of a skate park that I know and have skated myself. I always enjoyed my afternoons skating at this park with its large variety of both street and vert style skating. It has everything from boxes, rails and pyramids to the variety of in-ground bowls and half-pipes. I’m aware that the review is short, but sweet. It explains enough for an average skateboarder that has never skated the park to spark interest to at least visit it. The park is nationally recognized as one of the most popular, especially in our area. I also liked this publication because it offered even more reviews and awards about the park, to give you even more information.

Just up 30th street

If you live around the Boulder area in Colorado you have to check out the local Boulder Skate Park just off 30th and Arapahoe. If you attend CU Boulder, its not even 5 minutes away from the campus. The park it self is an in ground cement bowl rider park. Some highlights of the park are its Clover-bowl, the 5 foot spine, and huge street area with a pyrimad, flat rail and hubba. If you were to ever skate this park, you will find that most of locals customize parts of the park by adding traffic cones, or other obstacles to do tricks over them. All in all, Boulder skate park is a great local and free skate park to go cruize around on a nice sunny Colorado day.
